Celebrating World Tourism Day: A Journey Through My Personal Experiences

Welcome to our journey into the heart of World Tourism Day, a global celebration that resonates deeply with us, the wanderlust-filled duo. Our shared passion for adventure and discovery has led us to set a goal: to explore beyond our homeland at least once a year. Our focus is East Africa, a region rich in culture and history that we’ve only previously encountered in textbooks.

World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, is an initiative by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). It’s a day to reflect on the transformative power of tourism, its impact on society, and its ability to foster mutual understanding and cultural exchange.

Travel, to us, is more than just a leisure activity. It’s a journey of self-discovery, a chance to immerse ourselves in diverse cultures, and an opportunity to view the world through a different lens. It’s about breaking down barriers and fostering understanding.

This year, our wanderlust took us to Uganda for a three-week adventure. From the moment we boarded our flight at Juba International Airport to our stay at the cozy Airbnb in Antique apartments, every moment was a unique experience. Despite a few hiccups, like the delay in our driver’s arrival and my flight-induced food aversion, the trip was a memorable one.

Our days were filled with exploration and relaxation. We visited Entebbe, marveled at the tigers in the zoo, and even met a chimpanzee rescued from South Sudan named Ndugu. The beauty of Lake Bunyonyi and the vibrancy of Kampala left us in awe. Thanks to Antique Travel and Tours and Karibu Magazine, our Ugandan adventure was nothing short of amazing.

The trip was transformative, pushing us out of our comfort zones and immersing us in a culture that was both rich and vibrant. From zip-lining for the first time to tasting a local millet brew, we embraced new experiences and traditions, which not only broadened our horizons but also deepened our appreciation for Ugandan customs.

Traveling during the COVID-19 era added a unique twist to our adventure, reminding us of the resilience of the human spirit and the unquenchable thirst for exploration. So, here’s to World Tourism Day, a celebration of our shared love for discovery and the transformative power of travel.

In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be a lot more useful than ever before.
